Have you ever heard about oil pulling? If not then you must continue reading to find out what it is.
Coconut oil is a natural and traditional way to teeth whitening and promotes oral health since many centuries, and it all began in India.
Usage of coconut oil for oral hygiene is called "oil pulling" which is an important method in the Ayurvedic medicine which is using natural substances to cleanse the teeth and detoxify and gum.
With the effect of natural teeth whitening, and the evidence that it is beneficial for the gums and the fact that it also helps against harmful bacteria in the mouth, oil pulling has become a trend in the Western world.
Organic Virgin Coconut oil is used in the mouth for a brief time daily - from ten to twenty minutes - and is swished around. The swished oil will be spit out into the trah, and what is very important: Never swallow it or use it as a mouth wash.
The practice of oil-pulling (also called Gund Usha) began in India many thousands years ago. It was introduced in the USA within the early 1990s by a medical doctor named Dr. F. Karach. He used oil pulling successfully in medical practice.

The Natural Teeth Whitening Method
Forget about the chemical tooth whitening strips or any other methods that supposedly will whiten the teeth. Using coconut oil is so easy:
1. Take 1 teaspoon of the oil or one Cocopull packet.
2. Place the oil in your mouth. If you use thick oil, wait until it is liquid. Cocopull oil is already liquid and has a refreshing peppermint flavor.
3. Start swishing the oil in your mouth, starting with 5-10 minutes, then increase up to 20 minutes. Swish it around in the whole mouth so gums and teeth will be touched.
4. Spit oil into trash.
5. Rinse mouth with warm water and brush teeth as regular.
Don't gargle or swallow the oil!
Fights Bacteria that Cause Tooth Decay
Of all suggested oils, Coconut oil is the preferred oil as it contains lauric acid which is in 50% of the fat. Bacteria don't like lauric acid because it has an anti-microbial effect. Especially it inhibits Strep mutans, the bacteria that is causing tooth decay. How many bacteria, do you think are on our mouth?
In a clean mouth are between 1,000 and 100,000 bacteria on each tooth. This makes millions of bacteria all in all.
So this is a great effect that coconut oil has. It should not be surprising that more and more people love all the benefits and are looking for a convenient coconut oil that they can use.
Detoxification Effect
The germs in the body can cause inflammation which can lead to diseases. The entry point of the body for such contamination is our mouth. Therefore, by eliminating the toxins at the source (in the mouth) before they have the opportunity to spread, it creates a general impact on the whole body as the detoxification starts in the mouth.
Reducing Plaque And Gum Disease
Gum disease or "gingivitis" is caused by an inflammation of the gums. Healthy gums are not only cosmetically important.
If your gums are inflamed for a long time or chronically, the risk is increasing to lose teeth.
Gingivitis is triggered when the immune system begins to attack the bacteria that are present in the moth and in dental plaques. It is hard to avoid plaque the normal way unless with regular teeth cleaning.
In a very interesting source we found a very understandable explanation what exactly happens to the bacteria when using oil pulling :
...As the oil hits the teeth and gums, the microbes are picked up as though a powerful magnet is at work. Even hiding bacteria under crevices in the gums and in pores and tubules within the teeth, will be are sucked out of their hiding places and held firmly in the solution... (Source)
A simple mouthwash will not do this. Neither a tooth paste. But Oil pulling does!
Protects the Heart and the Body
Interestingly, a good oral hygiene has been linked to a healthier heart! Research has shown that a healthy mouth can be linked to the health of the entire body. For example cavities in the teeth can cause the risk of developing heart diseases. And it does not stop with heart diseases!
Dementia, diabetes, arthritis, and premature birth are linked to a poor oral care. This might be why the Ayurvedic text Charaka Samhiti claims that oil pulling can cure about 30 diseases (Source).
This is almost unbelievable but it is true. We are happy that we provide Cocopull which is the best option for oil pulling as it comes in daily packets which are great on the go.
